Exploring location-based services with information technologies
MIT-France and French telecommunications company Alcatel are organizing a workshop for students with an interest in exploring location-based services with information technologies.
The workshop will bring together students from MIT and teams from Alcatel's Research & Innovation division. Main themes that we will explore during the workshop will include killer services application, context awareness information and peer-to-peer communication.

Brief
Networks, radio systems and a large number of peripherals offer capabilities to “contextualize” the end users thanks to absolute of relative location information, context and user dependent resources. The current state of the art propose more or less only some basic location based services.

Our goal is to imagine a technology-driven mobile internet service (target = PDA or mobile phone) that takes benefit of ambient information to propose user centric services that includes all the dimensions of the users: location, social, technological, professional, and so on. Some examples of similar/partial approaches are positioning systems and POI, LinkedIn, etc.
