the future of interactive mobile media
In collaboration with Telefónica's Research and Development division, we are interested in understanding the future of media and imagining how people access and elaborate information and content on mobile devices or though new media.
Social networking applications are becoming increasingly popular among the population of all ages and social status. Youtube and other video publishing formats are dramatically changing the relationship between the producer and the receiver of information. Mobile devices, especially the newest generation with improved hardware and software capabilities, are opening new opportunities to access information and diffuse content. The distinction between the virtual and the physical worlds is becoming fuzzier, promoting a new definition of space, social interaction and the physical environment.
The goal of the educational workshop is to understand the future of interactive media and the new trends on the convergence of Internet, new media formats, mobile communication technologies and emerging user experiences.

Design Process →
Brief
The workshop can be divided into three phases:
1. Brainstorming and Definition
MIT and Telefónica I+D will jointly decide the specific areas to explore.
MIT and Telefónica I+D will propose possible topics of interest and in a joint workshop and will decide the areas to focus on.
2. Background Research
After identifying the topic, MIT will begin to do secondary research and delineate the state of the art of the defined topic. This phase will provide background information and material to assess the importance and scientific contribution of previous projects.
3. Advanced Concepts
Once MIT has explored the background research, MIT will begin an advanced concept development phase. At the end of this phase, MIT will have a written report of topics of mutual interest that will address the three main areas of advanced user experience, the new media ecosystem, and the technological innovations.
