Can a digital platform improve the tracking and response to malaria outbreaks?

The MIT Mobile Experience Lab worked with TARU Leading Edge, an Indian consulting firm, to understand how digital technology could be used to aid health workers in India as they diagnose and treat malaria patients.

The team at the lab researched mHealth (mobile health) initiatives across the globe, while working with TARU to understand the requirements for a digital platform for tracking malaria outbreaks, and enabling faster response in urban environments

Using this research, the team created a high-level concept with two components: a mobile application that would enable health workers to more easily keep track of patients, and a web dashboard that would allow administrators to ensure that cases were properly followed up on.
